Movie/Theater Theme Cookies

A set of cookies in celebration of a young lady becoming a teenager!  Her mom requested a set with a theater/movie theme.  This is what I came up with..........

I sure hope she approves of them.....cuz heaven knows how OPINIONATED today's teenagers are about ......EVERYTHING!  Especially teenage girls!!!  I speak from first hand experience.
My dearest, darling daughter became one this past summer, and holds nothing back when expressing her opinion on any and everything.

I refer to this as that 'movie thingy', but upon doing a google search learned that it is called a clapboard or clapper.  Who knew??  Thank you google!!

In the pre-tech days, one always noticed that these clapper things were written upon with chalk. I assume for ease of erasing and rewriting.  Now, they're digital.  I was going for the 'retro' look here, and used Wilton's white icing color painted on with a small paintbrush. It provided the effect I was looking for, but still remained tacky after a day of drying.  In the future, I'll be sure to try a white gel paste instead in hopes that it will dry

Happy 13th Birthday, Ryonza!

Jewelry Cookies

Back in November, I was asked to make cookies for the grand opening of Sorrelli Jewelry's

second retail location in Montclair, New Jersey.  I had free reign on cookie design with

the only stipulation being that it would be my interpretation of a piece of Sorrelli Jewelry.

First of all, I'd never heard of Sorrelli.  After doing a search, OMG!!!!  Boy do they DO jewelry!!!

Narrowing it down to 3 designs was exhaustive.  Their jewelry line is extensive and soooo

beautiful!!  I decided to pick a pendant, an earring, and a brooch as inspiration.  Since

the grand opening was during the fall, I decided to use the rich, warm, earthy tones of fall.....my

FAVORITE time of year.

This is what I came up with:

The pendant cookie

The earring cookie

The brooch cookie (my fave)

If you're into jewelry, go have a look see at Sorrelli's website.  The collections, the colors, the styles, the sparkle, the designs.........definitely eye candy, my friends.

Butterflies, A Mustache, and Mardi Gras

What does one have to do with the other you may ask?

Nothing really, other than the fact that I used butterfly cutters  and a mustache cutter to make my Mardi Gras 2014 edition cookies.

I know this post is coming after Fat Tuesday, but hey.....it's a new post!  And for me, that's quite an accomplishment.

So.....when looking for cutters for this year's cookies, I knew I wanted to add a lil' Cajun flair with the crawfish and alligator theme, but I also was looking for a different Mardi Gras mask.  Not wanting to hand cut, and disliking the mask cutter that I own because the dough always gets stuck and I hate having to deal with that, I did what Sugarbelle does and went looking through the collection to re-purpose a cutter into a mask.

Enter the butterfly and mustache cutters:

This is how I re-purposed the 2 butterfly cutters to make a Mardi Gras mask:

The mustache cutter is pretty straightforward.......just flip it upside down and you have a mini Mardi Gras mask.

The finished products......

The whole collection of Mardi Gras cookies,  2014 edition:

And Mardi Gras 2014 Cajun style.......

             crawfish

                 alligators

and some 'Throw me                somethin' crawfish.

Happy Mardi Gras!
